“It’s So Bloody Complicated!” | Tax Hikes to Affect UK Motorists

Starting April 1, significant car tax changes will impact UK motorists, with electric vehicle (EV) owners facing the biggest shift.

Previously exempt from Vehicle Excise Duty (VED), EVs will now be taxed. New EV owners will pay £10 for the first year, then £195 annually. EVs registered between April 2017 and March 2025 will immediately be subject to the £195 standard rate.

Announced in December 2022 by then-Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, the move aims to create a fairer motoring tax system.

Mike Graham speaks with former Top Gear presenter, Steve Berry.
